Downtown Charters Towers <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Check out the stunning historical buildings located on Gill and Mosman Streets<\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/p>\n (Photos Left to Right \u2013 Post Office, Stock Exchange Arcade and City Hall)<\/p>\n There is a self-guided Heritage Walking Trail<\/strong>, Audio Self Drive Tour<\/strong> and Heritage Sculpture Trail<\/strong>, for more information on these visit the Visitor Information Centre.<\/p>\n The World Theatre<\/strong> is a stunning building, and home to our local indoor cinema and live shows. They also frequently have art exhibitions on display. Open 10am – 1pm.<\/p>\n At the back of the historic Stock Exchange Arcade<\/strong>, you\u2019ll find the Don Roderick Assay Room Gallery<\/strong>, where you can purchase art, pottery and woodwork made by local artisans. There\u2019s also a history of the Stock Exchange and Historic Photograph Collection on display. Open 10am – 2pm.<\/p>\n The Mike Carney Creative Industries Centre<\/strong> offers workshops, art galleries and retail store. To arrange a visit, call 0466 159 707.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Towers Hill<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n The Towers Hill Lookout features the stunning views of Charters Towers and beyond and is particularly beautiful at sunset or sunrise.<\/p>\n There is an informative display about the Gold Rush, as well as some of the key moments in Charters Towers\u2019 History. Not to mention it is home to the resident Allied Rock Wallabies.<\/p>\n \u00a0 <\/p>\n To get the full experience of the Hill \u2013 take the Towers Hill Walk<\/strong> (brochure from Visitors Info Centre) or attend the nightly screening of Ghosts After Dark<\/strong>, which explores the town\u2019s rich history, in the amphitheatre from 6.30pm (book prior to 4pm at the Visitors Info Centre).<\/p>\n Also don\u2019t forget to stop at the WWII Bunkers<\/strong> to get a better understanding of our involvement in the war. This includes the Towers Hill in WWII<\/strong> augmented reality app.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Historical Places\/Museums <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Showcases our rich social history, including the gold rush, wars and just how our ancestors lived. Open 10am \u20131 pm.<\/p>\n Is one of the last standing Gold Stamp Batteries in Australia. Where else can you get up close and personal with some of the most beautiful cattle in the world?<\/p>\n This half day tour offers an introductory video, traditional Aussie Smoko, buggy tour around the paddocks to see the Longhorn and other cattle including Scottish Highlands, African Ankole-Watusi and American Bison and Buffalos, calf petting (when available), a visit to the Longhorn Love Shack<\/strong> and JR Gallery of Horns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Located at stunning Leahton Park, 10kms from town.
